| - The Adelaide club is a good option if you work in the financial district because it's right at King and Bay (in First Canadian Place) and you can get to it through the PATH. I go there because the membership is subsidized by my employer, if it weren't I would definitely be going elsewhere. Interestingly, the membership is cheaper if you are under 30.
The problem with the Adelaide Club is that it tries to pass itself off as this kind of exclusive high end place, when in comparison to places like the Toronto Athletic Club, it most certainly is not. The equipment is decent, but nothing special. The free weights and the weight machines are in separate rooms (it takes about a minute and flight of stairs to get from one to the other). The cardio equipment is in another separate room (men's and women's cardio is separated). It's funny to go to the weight room because absolutely everyone seems to have a personal trainer.
The men's change room is alright, until you find out how much better the women's is. Apparently the women's has lockers that can be set to a combination you choose each time you go, whereas in the men's you have to bring your own lock (there is also an extreme shortage of day lockers in the men's locker room). Apparently the women got a renovation a few years back, while the men still wait. The men's change room is also prison style showers, which normally isn't that big a deal provided you have enough personal space, but it becomes awkward when the place is full of people you work with (women's is not prison style apparently, surprise!).
