  • I'm very pleased to have found another good lunch option in the financial district! The service here is always friendly, even when there's a long lineup. The food is always solid. The meatloaf sandwich is SO good. The slice of meatloaf is kind of on the thinner side but it's absolutely enough, and it's served on the most delicious, fresh, fluffy, crusty bread. I wouldn't have chosen the condiments they serve it with, but it goes with the meatloaf very well - the ketchup, the caramelized onions, and the lettuce. So tasty, it's served nice and warm, and the meatloaf is seasoned just right. There's a short wait for the sandwich but it's totally worth it. None of the other sandwiches seem quite as interesting to me, but I wouldn't be averse to trying them if a variation catches my eye one day, especially since their bread is so good! The Cornish pasty (which is apparently pronounced "PASS-tee" as opposed to "PASTE-tee", like I'm inclined to call it) is very good. The crust is kind of thick, but the inside is delicious, with the beef, potatoes, onions, and delicious, subtle spices. I like to warm it up before I eat it. The sausage rolls are VERY delicious! Everything I'd want a sausage roll to be, and almost as good as the one Superwoman makes. The outside is flaky and rich and buttery, the sausage inside is juicy and savoury, just the right density and spiced just right. It's quite heavy though, and quite greasy - but I don't mind at all. One of my favourite things at Brick Street is their toll house cookie! It's basically a chocolate chip & walnut cookie. It's crisp on the outside, the sugar inside is slightly caramelized, the middle is chewy, but the best part is it's cooked all the way through despite the chewiness. Nothing makes me sadder than a cookie that's raw in the middle *AHEM, Le Gourmand*. There's also a good chocolate-to-cookie ratio - it's not quite as aggressive as Jacques Torres', which I love and is laced with many thin sheets of chocolate inside, but you get bites of semisweet, bites of caramelized cookie, and it's just great. I'm a fan and a regular!
