  • I went to Joe Rockheads for the first time yesterday. It was very easy to find and the most centrally-located gym in Toronto core. I was surprised as the smaller size of the building from the outside, I guess I just expected it to be bigger. Inside, though, it really opened up. I climbed for about three hours and was beat at the end. The climbs were good, nice variety of inclines, flat walls, using corners. Walls very clearly marked for routes. They had alot of 5.9 -5.10s (perfect, because that's what I climb). But I noticed not too many climbs above or below that range. If I was new to climbing, for example, I would probably only have 4 walls to chose from, or if I was more experienced, I would have only a few options. Even with my range, I climbed pretty much all the ones in my range (granted, I was there for three hours, so that is alot of time). it was not crowded and everyone seemed friendly. I asked for a water fountain and was directed by staff to the bathroom, saying "our tap water tastes great!". Still, I don't like drinking bathroom water, it's a GYM every gym I have been to in my life has a water fountain. That was strange, for me. I would go again, but it wasn't big enough for me to rationalize a membership, because it does not have a huge number of walls. Good visit, good location, a little small for my taste.
