My friend who grew up in Vegas pointed this place out to me one day as we were driving by and told me it was the best custard when he was a kid.
My job is about 3 min away by car and I had a real hankering for some custard-y goodness so I decided to come here and give it a try anyway even though many people say the quality has gone down since the mid-90's.
If this is the "bad quality" version I wish I could go back in time to try the good stuff. It was probably like eating a piece of heaven.
The custard here is good. Like seriously good. Not too sweet, rich and creamy. I will admit that it was slightly icy but I didn't notice it that much and that's me being SUPER nitpicky. I actually got the Western Special and it was great. You'd think it would be cloyingly sweet with the caramel and hot fudge but like I said the custard is great and the pecans give it a nice balance.
And please... if you're not from here, don't be afraid of this neighborhood. Yes, it is sketchy. But use your "aware traveler" skills and you will be perfectly fine. First, there are other people who are visiting just like you and also getting some good custard or walking around Stratosphere. Second, don't look for trouble and you most likely won't find it.
