| - I read a lot of other reviews before going here and expected this place to be a froyo (ie Pinkberry wannabe) place that failed horribly. But Swirl serves REAL frozen yogurt as in TCBY, pre-pinkberry, American frozen yogurt, NOT the tarty pinkberry type froyo.
I think that the reviews for Swirl are really unfair. People seem to be giving it bad ratings because they are expecting froyo but it's actually real frozen yogurt. You have to rate it for what it is. Just like you wouldn't give gelato a bad rating because it's not ice cream, you shouldn't give the frozen yogurt a bad rating because it's not pinkberry froyo. As far as frozen yogurt goes, it was pretty good.
Swirl is actually a stand (not a stand alone building or store) in the Promenade Crocker Park shopping center.
Cupcakes:
I tried two cupcakes the carrot and black forest. They were cutely decorated. In general, both cupcakes had a filling inside the cupcake. The frosting was a little denser than regular frosting, not whipped frosting. I liked that the frosting wasn't very sweet. By itself, the cake part was a bit dry, but when eaten with the frosting and the inside filling, the whole package was pretty good. (as a disclaimer, I'm not sure if the cupcakes were dry because that's how they were made, or because I ate them in the evening and they dried out between the time I bought and ate them.)
Like I said above, the carrot cake was a bit dry but it had a delicious cream cheese center filling. The frosting was a denser cinnamony frosting that was not too sweet.
The black forest cupcake was again dry. It had a jelly filling that was really delicious and made the cupcake enjoyable.
