| - Let's be honest; if you are looking to stay at the Guest House, it's most likely not because you are taking a luxury vacation to Cleveland. This is one reason and one reason only to stay here. Location, location, location (guess that is three reasons!).
The Guest House isn't horrible, but it's not great. It's strictly average. It gets 5 stars for location; the "J" building of the Cleveland Clinic is right across the street, a 5 minute walk from the Guest House lobby. Easy to walk to and a shuttle is also available if a member of your party is unable to walk. It does take the shuttle a considerable amount of time (25 minutes) to get you over there b/c it runs the whole route before dropping you at the J building.
The rooms are clean and comfortable. There is almost nothing within walking distance of the Guest House, though, plus I don't think the area is the safest. Your best food options are in the J building or getting in your car and driving to another part of Cleveland (which is what I did). They also offer free parking in a lot just for guests of the Guest House. Other nice features include a mini-fridge in each room, free continental breakfast, and free wi-fi!
The Front Desk service left something to be desired. Problems on check-in, overcharging (which was quickly resolved with a call to the Accounting Department), and having to get my key reactivated EVERY TIME I came back to the hotel. Look, I used to work in a hotel with electronic key-cards. I know not to place them next to your credit cards, cell phone, etc. I kept my card in the envelope and in a separate, zipped pocket of my purse. Without fail, I had to make a trip down to the Front Desk upon each return to have my key reactivated. Super-annoying, and the Front Desk staff was super-annoyed with me, even though this was clearly beyond my control. After spending the day visiting an ill family member in the hospital, the last thing I want to do is struggle to get into my room. The Front Desk staff should be reminded that the majority of their guests are in the same situation as me, and a little patience and kindness would go a long way.
The Guest House has a captive audience due to location, and a few decent features to make your stay more comfortable. If the Front Desk staff could step it up a notch, my rating would improve.
