Not really a big fan of Chipotle and this is what this place is, except it's with Hawaiian flair which is definitely a step up. We got there a little after 6 and the place was empty but better for us first timers, as we wanted to take our time perusing the menu and checking what our options were.
Tia was manning the register and was eager to serve us. She gave us samples of the meats that were offered. The huli-huli chicken and pulehu steak were okay, it didn't really pack a punch in my opinion, but the kalua pork was flavorful and on point. Most of their sauces were too sweet for my taste. I liked the coconut colada pearl the best, even though it was the spiciest I found that by adding just a splash it enhanced the meat with just enough heat to it.
So for 3 bowls and a box of holiday bark we ended up paying a little over $36 which I thought was kinda steep. We got in the car, drove off and I just happen to check the receipt and realized they had charged us for the 2 boxes of coconut bark that was supposed to be free with the yelp check in. We went back, they apologized and all was well. While waiting for the hubby to get back I took a bite of the coconut bark, it was pretty tasty but nothing I would kill for. The holiday bark I was quite disappointed with, I was told it was a must try but it was overwhelmingly sweet (and I have a sweet tooth) with no distinct flavors.
