  • Well, at least they got the name of the business right. I mean, my experience there SHOULD HAVE BEEN FREE. My friend Heather and I arrived at FreSpa for our $19 promo massages and were quite stunned at how huge the place was. It was also quite empty. We were brought to an area with about 10 or 12 large sofas, and there were flat screen TVs everywhere, but none of them were actually turned on. All of those TVs, but the bathroom didn't have holders for the paper towel rolls. Heather and I went our separate ways with our therapists. I'll talk about my experience first: My therapist was pleasant, but when we entered the sparse room and I expected her to ask me about any pain I have or areas to work on she didn't. I guess she didn't have to because she really didn't "work" on me at all. I received a better "massage" when I got home that night and my happy cat kneaded me with his paws. It was very warm in the room, and there was a small fan on full blast, but it was still a bit stuffy. Afterward, I expected her to offer me water. She didn't. I got worried for a second because I know am supposed to drink water after a massage, but then I realized that there was no way she had released any toxins into my body, so I was OK. And now I will attempt to recount Heather's experience ... First of all, Heather is pregnant. With twins. When we registered online, we were specifically prompted to fill in a need for a prenatal massage (which we did). However, Heather's therapist had no idea she was pregnant. Heather took one look at the table and said um, uh, I need, well ... The therapist left the room to get pillows to accomodate her, and when she returned the pillows were uncovered. Heather said it looked like they were stuffed with cotton balls. The therapist told her they didn't have pillow cases, so it would take her a while to wrap them in sheets. Heather said OK, and the therapist tossed all the sheets and pillows onto the floor and started wrapping them. Heather was extremely uncomfortable during her massage. The tables were not meant for someone who would be lying on her side for that long, and the pillows provided zero support. She was hot. The therapist kept apologizing. At one point, Heather asked for more pressure (as her massage was as weak and timid as my own) and the therapist ignored her. When it was over and Heather went to get dressed, her clothes (which had been neatly folded on the sole chair in the room) were tossed onto the floor in a heap. So imagine now, she's pregnant and having to bend down to pick up her garmets. Heather and I met each other back in the sofa room and then headed downstairs. I swear we could have just walked right out of there because we had to literally go up to the girl in front of a laptop and say "hi." She asked how it was, and Heather said, "It was horrible. I feel worse now than when I came in for my massage." The response? "Oh." We expected the marketing pitch, but it never came. She asked if we wanted someone to talk to us about FreSpa and we said yes because we were really curious and would have loved to see a manager or something. She left for a minute, then came back and said no one was here. OK ... We paid our $19 each (which totally confused her when I said I was going to pay for both) and she tried to tell us about the registration plan and the way things work. This stressed her out so much that Heather eventually said, "It's all online, right? So we can check there?" RELIEF. She was so happy. We wandered around for a bit afterward to see the rest of the place. a stylist who had overheard our commentary said, "I'm sorry your massage wasn't good. She was really good yesterday! Did you see the locker room?" Apparently, the locker room (with missing paper towel holders) was supposed to make up for the horrible massages. Everyone we came in contact with was saying "this is going to be here" and "this is where we'll" and "this is such a great deal" - and I was really curious about HOW it was a great deal, but I am still mystified (except I seem to understand that if I recruit people then I get stuff for free). To top it all off, when you walk into the place the first thing you see are Coach knock-offs. Which, I guess is appropriate, because for a SPA, this place is a total knock-off.
