| - Like many others in the T-dot, had no idea about this place - which doesn't say much considering the insane amount of choice we Torontonians have when it comes to cuisine, lounges and bars. A friend of mine was planning a birthday party and sent me a link to check it out before she made reservations. Website - impressive. The menu looked great, the site was trendy and the venue looked chic. Let's do it. And so she reserved for a party of 14 (ish).
We get there and there's a live band. Cool. No tables? Only people chilling on the bottom floor with a bar at the back. No host/hostess to greet us and tell us that the dining room is upstairs. It's not hard to figure out, but would have been nice not to look like we have no clue. We head upstairs and find our party. Cool space! Big tables, comfy couches, really random cover band, but still a great feel.
Menu = great choices. Staff = great; fun, cheerful, funny, engaging, and attentive to a point (which could use a little more work). Ambiance = trendy and laid back. Washrooms = rad. Actual food = meh. The overall food experiences for this night were mixed. So many great things about this place, but the main reason we go to a restaurant is for the FOOD. There was another large party there that night, and honestly, the service was slightly delayed and not focused because I don't think they were equipped to handle two large groups plus whatever else was happening downstairs. Food feedback: My prime rib burger...sooooo dry - please pass the mayo so I can increase the saliva and actually swallow this burg. Redeeming food item - the apple crumble was a-w-e-s-o-m-e.
My hubby's "tandoori chicken" was grilled chicken breast with a tandoori dipping sauce on the side. What? Apparently the lamb and apps were good, but I won't be going back anytime soon. I think it's probably a better venue for special events like fundraisers, art shows, etc. then a night out for good food.
