| - Today, while driving out of the Gold gym's complex parking lot, I notice the "we're open" sign on this bike shop window. For the past couple of months, I been watching the development of this store, and was quite excited to see it open.
For nearly 18 years, I was in the bicycle industry, and loved the what I did at one time, but I had to move on because of too many broken fingers, and too much grease in my blood. The interaction with customers in a smaller city was one of greatest experiences in my life, and having the Pacific Ocean across the street was beyond a benefit. I seen the bicycle industry go from the common Schwinn road bike to Mongoose BMX, then the start of Mountain bikes; Freestyle then morph to freeride bikes, the rise of carbon fiber, then suspension bikes came became the craze, but now looking at what the bicycle industry been developing, it came a long way.
Walking into McGhies, you can tell there almost done with modeling of the storefront, but the Ski and Board areas weren't quite yet done, but I'm not going to hold that against them, because it's a very attractive store with a lot of retail space.
The employees are very friendly, they have a good amount of staff to see if you're questions are answered. I have an affinity for the bike lines they carry, Trek and Cannondale because I use to own and sell those companies bikes. Cannondale, and Trek are the biggest names for bicycles in USA, and McGhie's have all of their models displayed on the sale floors. That even includes Treks flagship madone 7 series carbon fiber road bike. If want to see and ride a 12,000.00 road bike, they have one on display.
I notice their service department is already pretty busy, and they have a pretty good amount of cycling apparel.
Being in the industry for that long period of time, gave me a feeling that the bicycle wheel will continue to recreated every year, and there will never be a five star bike shop for one reason or another. It could stand true from my stand point, but if McGhie's continues fine tune this new business, I might give them my mystical five star rating for a bike shop in Henderson.
