  • My husband and I drove out to Caledon to look for local apples and enjoy the fall scenery. We pulled up to the Country Market at Albion Orchards farm on a Wednesday afternoon and stepped past the bins of assorted pumpkins and squash on the porch and into the inviting shop. All different varieties of apples were in different bins, you could buy by the bag or bushel, or make your own assortment by the pound. In the back room there were bags of "seconds" of several of the varieties for half price- apples that weren't quite as large or attractive but still perfectly good to eat or bake with. There was also cider, a large variety of jams, pickles, maple syrup, cheeses, and pepperoni made by other Ontario farms, and baked goods. The two ladies that were working were very friendly and helpful, answering questions about the different varieties of apple. You can also pick your own apples, although we didn't go for that, as well as what looked like a play area for kids, and maybe a small farm animal petting pen (we saw a billy goat walking around back there). The prices of their own jarred preserved goods seemed reasonable, especially when compared to similar goods sold at say, Dufferin Grove farmer's market in Toronto. All in all we found a lot of tasty things to take home with us from the tidy, charming, and well-stocked Market, and the staff was pleasant too.
