| - I'm disappointed. With so many people calling themselves "handymen" and no real way for customers to possibly know which ones are good and which to avoid, Yelp is especially valuable in weeding out some of the losers based solely one performance (or lack of it).
While researching them, the first ones I scratched off my list were ones that were reported to not keep promises or not follow-through on requests. I believe any person or company who doesn't take care of someone before they are a customer will NEVER take care of them after they are a customer. The next to go were handymen that either lied, misrepresented, changed the terms, overcharged, broke things without compensation or anything like that. A handyman is someone I invite into my private home to do something I can't or don't want to do myself. My #1 expectation is that they will do the job at least as good as I would do it if I could.
All that being said, I felt good about Two Good Men Handyman Service based on Yelp reviews (which as everyone knows could all be faked by the vendor). They checked out with BBB and other places I looked online. There was a benefit to having two healthy younger men so they would be less limited in tasks they could handle. And the "support the military" pitch is always like someone saying they like puppies and little kittens.
So why am I disappointed? Because I took the time and effort to send a long detailed email to them so I wouldn't waste their time or mine. I received a VERY brief reply, not immediately, but in a reasonable time. The email suggested setting up a time to meet. I replied immediately with my phone number. Days went by and I received no reply or phone call. I understand if two guys running a small home-based business are swamped with work, but no reputable individual or company ignores the prospect of new business. There are 24 hours in a day and it would take literally 5 seconds to reply to my email with the words "Thanks, I'll give you a call" or to call me and let me know they are working on a huge project this week and will call me on (set a date). But no, now after 2 weeks, nothing and I have to rate them as not dependable.
We've all been there with trying to deal with people who clearly should not be in a consumer-oriented business. The frustration isn't worth it, and this is the reason some of us take the time to post a review to warn other people. Sorry, but based on their OWN lack of performance I can't recommend Two Good Men Handyman Service. If they don't take care of me before I'm a customer I doubt if they ever would or could.
