| - Attending a 3-day convention in mid-May 2018 at Mandalay Bay, I was directed to book our employees' rooms at the adjacent Luxor resort because rates were less than half the price per night. Even though I had the option of staying in a standard room at Mandalay Bay myself, I chose a Pyramid Corner Queen Suite at Luxor... because of the soaking tub IN THE BEDROOM. Yes, it was *just* a tub, with no jets, yet I thoroughly enjoyed this tub on three separate evenings. Plus, my suite included a separate sitting area with mini-fridge, TV, chair & 6' long sofa. And this suite was still less than half the nightly rate of a standard room at Mandalay Bay! If I'm not saving money for myself, I really love to save money for my company.
I had a bunch of rooms reserved in my name, and to make things easier for my team (& earn my keep), I wanted to check in for everyone before they arrived. Both times I visited the front desk for check-ins (we had two different check-in days), the wait was minimal. That said, I saw the line around 3:15pm on Sunday, and was glad I didn't get stuck in that mess. On Monday, I checked in for 5 rooms around 1:30pm, and experienced a very brief wait. My only complaint is that as the rooms were ready throughout that afternoon, I received texts, but no identifying info to match the room keys I'd been given with the actual room numbers. I had to return to the front desk again to match the keys to the rooms, but that was a fairly speedy process.
When I checked in for my own room, plus two others, around 12:30pm on Sunday, the lady that served me was very helpful. She advised that I could access my suite immediately, although it was on the 4th floor, or I could wait a couple of hours & get a suite on a higher floor. Since I have previously had rooms in Las Vegas with amazing views, and I just wanted to get settled, I chose the 4th floor corner suite. This room was clean & spacious, yet the furnishings were obviously dated. I really loved that my room was maybe 3 doors from the elevator, with the ice machine in the middle.
In addition to my own suite, I visited some of the other rooms throughout the week. My co-worker had chosen a King Tower Suite, and her room was much more recently updated with very modern furnishings, on the 11th floor. Plus, the hallway to her room was very quiet, unlike the open hallways in the pyramid. But who goes to Vegas for serenity?! The rooms for our team were on the 14th floor in the pyramid, although not near each other. These rooms were a fair size for a standard room, and were furnished similarly to mine: dated yet clean.
As with most resorts on The Strip, Luxor is a massive property... I counted TWO Starbucks between elevator banks! The food court & several restaurants were located on the open second level, loft style, along with access to the Shoppes at Mandalay, which leads to Mandalay Bay (think long indoor mall with retail & dining). The casino had several bars, although I ended up spending most of my time at Centra, smack in the middle of the action.
Luxor offers a great value on The Las Vegas Strip, in a great location! Their rewards club, MLife, offers discounts in addition to their outstanding rates. I will definitely stay here again for our convention in 2020, but I'd also stay here personally on my own dime (which I'm already planning to do this fall).
