| - So, I recently had to make one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make. I had to put my beloved kitty Boots to sleep. After being in our family over 15 years, he came down with some sort of cancer that was causing painful tumors to grow on his leg and tummy. After antibiotics, pain medication, bandages, holistic medications and supplements, his cancer only got worse, and we could tell he was in pain. It was time.
I actually haven't been to MVAH since 2004. I used to live in the area, and have since moved away to Henderson. I had taken Boots to another vet about a month prior, and just got a really bad vibe while there. When deciding to put Bootsy to sleep, I was agonizing over where to take him. I looked through the Yelp reviews of the vets in my area, and surprisingly a lot of them had complaints about the front office staff. I didn't want this to be an even worse experience than it already was due to some rude people at the office. My mom still takes her animals to MVAH even though she also lives in Henderson, so I decided to give them a call.
The girl on the phone was very nice. She sympathized with me as I cried over the phone about having to make this appointment. She was very understanding. I scheduled the apt for the next day.
Arriving at the vet's office, they had a room ready to go right when we walked in. I had my husband, and 3 grown children with me. They were very accommodating with the fact that there were 5 of us in the room. First, a lady came in to get some general information, and weigh Boots. She was very nice. We then saw Dr. Reece. She completed the quality of life exam on Boots. Explained that he had a very aggressive type of cancer on his leg tumor, and that they could treat it most likely by amputation. She left the final decision up to me on what I wanted to do, but recommended euth.
She advised that she would take Boots back and place a catheter, and then bring him back in and give us a long as we needed to say our goodbyes and spend some time with him. They were not pushy at all. Left us alone for a good 15 minutes. When Dr. Reece came back in the room, Boots had actually climbed back in his cat carrier and laid down. He was very very tired. Had been all day.
Dr. Reece advised that she could go ahead and do the euth on the floor with him in his carrier so that he could remain comfortable. I thought this was very nice of her. You don't find many people willing to get dirty on the floor.
All in all, this was a very easy experience, considering. They had us pre-pay for everything so that once it was over, we could just leave. I am still waiting on his ashes, which should take another week or so. I also received a card in the mail yesterday from Dr. Reece with a handwritten note. I thought this was very nice. I will keep the card with his ashes once I receive them.
I would highly recommend this animal hospital, even if not going in to put your pet to sleep. The entire office staff made the experience less painful.
