Finally got around to trying this place. First off the bat, Nu Bagel already won me over by being in one of my favourite neighborhoods in town and secondly the whole wood burning concept is a huge plus. But does it excel in the most important criteria of a great tasting bagel? IMO, it sure does.
Ok, I am not going to pretend to be a bagel connoisseur, so my criteria for a great bagel may not be the same as everyone else's. For me a bagel should have a bit of a hard crust followed by a chewy interior. It should have a yeast-sweetened taste and not a savoury note - any savoury flavour should come from the toppings.
Nu Bagel delivers on all this. Their onion bagels were sprinkled with a generous amount of onion flakes and poppy seed creating a perfect blend of savoury topping and yeast-sweetened bagel.
Prices are decent at $1 each, $5 for 6 and $9 for 12.
