As a transplanted northeaster who has spent 15 years in ATX and just recently arrived in PHX I'm a tad particular when it comes to Italian cuisine. I'm always on the prowl for peasant Italian food you know where the red sauce is called gravy.
Uncle Sal's was recommended by a few locals as the place for what I craved. On a very busy Saturday night Sal's got a great table on the patio.
Our martinis were shaken and delivered with blue cheese stuffed olives. Memories of the perfect Ketel One martinis served at the Paul R Pub in Austin danced in my head as we toasted and sipped.
We started with their baked clams and plus one who would never ever think about eating a clam loved them. My Caesar salad arrive with extra anchovies as requested, perfecto!
Our pasta entrees were cooked to perfection, el dente. Loved the gravy. As a nit the cannoli desert was OK not great, but it did not take away from our wonderful dining experience. Lastly, service is wonderful from host desk through the service.
