  • A block or two down the road from a clump of other antique shops on Lorain lies Century Antiques. It is one of the few that is open during regular business hours, so I'm assuming it is one of the few that are actually relatively successful in this area. In my opinion, Century is also one of the shops that contains more of what I expect to see in an antique store in CLE. There are plenty of beautiful pieces of hardwood furniture that span the last century or so. I am particularly fond of some of the stained-glass windows that are available for purchase here. They are being sold at a price which is at least close to fair compared to a lot of the other stores in the area. One thing this store has a great selection of that you may not find in some of the other stores along Lorain is lamps and other types of lighting. They have a very nice array of diverse options. Granted, the lighting is overpriced but I suppose they are aware that they are the only ones in the area with much to offer in this area and are capitalizing on it. This is also the only antique shop in the area that has a selection of vintage pens (specifically fountain pens, which I collect). It's a pretty cruddy offering of pens in terrible condition at prices that are way over market value... but at least the have some. In the end, eBay provides a better value for items such as this but it's nice to hold them in your hands occasionally. So, your query may be, "Why the 3-star rating!?". Well, I really don't like the staff in here. They made me feel uncomfortable. They sat there eyeballing me the whole time I looked around and then got extremely pushy once I expressed some interest in the pens they had. They illustrated very little knowledge in the items I was interested in but seemed put-off when I suggested that they were too expensive. It's a shame because they have some cool stuff here but the staff make visiting so uncomfortable that I have a hard time recommending it.
