| - Came with a group of 12 dudes who were looking for a casual lunch off the strip, so I suggested Lotus of Siam. After hearing a lot of great things about the dishes, we all took a bunch of cabs from the Strip to come into the side strip mall the restaurant was located. The decor inside was a little dated, but was relatively well-kept, and we were seated right away, as it was a weekday, on the later side of the lunch hour.
Our group had a lot of different types of diners, some adventurous and some not quite as adventurous, so it was good that the menu was very extensive, so that there was just about something for everyone, from fried rice and pad see ew, to more traditional Northern Thai dishes. I personally got the crispy duck penang, which was excellent. The fried bits held up really well in the curry, and the flavors with the rice made me want more and more curry. We also got the garlic prawns, and the Nam Prik Ong (chili dip). The prawns were really great and flavorful, although the chili dip was just okay to me. I liked the intense flavor of the dip, but the crudite it came with was a bit disappointing.
Service was fairly spotty throughout the meal, as we were constantly asking for drinks and water refills. To be fair, we were a large group, but on the other hand, the place wasn't particularly busy, as only a few other parties were in the restaurant. The prices were definitely on the expensive side for Thai food, but as some of us went for the more adventurous dishes to try, the bill was a little higher.
Would definitely recommend if you're trying to get off the Strip for a meal. There really is something for everyone, and the popular dishes are really something you should go for.
