| - I've now been here twice, the first time for my bridal updo trial, and the second for the real deal. Both times my hair was done by Jodie. My airbrush makeup was done by Jen S. the day of, for which I did not have a trial.
I brought photos of an Eva Longoria updo for Jodie and my hair piece for the trial. Jodie used the photo quite a bit and then tried to improvise somewhat. I wasn't really thrilled by what I was seeing, and although I'm the type to usually just let it slide and not say anything, I spoke up because the trial was equally as expensive as the wedding day hairdo, and by no means cheap. I wanted it done right. Jodie fixed the things I said were problems for me, but I left not totally satisfied. By the time i got home, lots of pins had fallen out and my headband was sliding off my head. It also looked a bit sloppy and nothing like the photo. I was not very pleased and a little nervous about how it would look the following week.
Thankfully, on my wedding day Jodie did an AMAZING job. I think my hair might have been the best thing about how I looked. I would post trial photos vs. wedding day photos, but I look a mess in the trial photos and I'm not sure I want them floating around in cyberspace. The wedding day hair didn't 't look like the photos of Eva I brought in, it looked better.
Makeup-wise, I think my main complaint would be the cost. Originally it was supposed to cost $80, which I thought was expensive as it was. Then I decided to have the artist also put on false lashes for me, which I brought myself. I was told the cost of applying them would be $25, but somehow I ended up paying more than $110 (I can't remember the exact amount) for my makeup. It looked okay, but not the best. In the photos I think I look like I have bronzer on, but I don't. My lips look washed out, and my eyes don't look as dramatic as they could have given that that was meant to be the "focal point". My bridesmaids assured me that I looked great, but I think my makeup is going to rank up there as one of my regrets.
As for bringing a bridal party to the salon, it was actually a great choice. They obviously do this all the time, in fact there were two other brides there that day (they put up a congratulations sign near the hostess stand for all of us). The salon had sent me a few emails with a chart of all of our names and the services we would be getting with the stylist and the price. It was a great tool for communicating with my bridal party. The week before the wedding they called and gave me instructions for getting everyone there on time and how to prepare for successful and timely service. The day of they made sure my girls and I were taken care of on time and out the door in time for photos. They had a refreshment table for us, and we put champagne and snacks out to enjoy throughout the service. I think my bridesmaids looked more beautiful than I did! They all had a unique look.
I will definitely be going back for a haircut now that I can finally get the wife-chop. Let's see what Jodie can do with photos of Kate Gosselin.
