| - I recently realized that, despite being a very regular customer of this place, I have never checked in or written a review. Time to right the latter part of this wrong.
My boyfriend and I discovered Café Monte thanks to a Groupon his mom gave us for Christmas. It's not exactly convenient to where we live, and I might not have otherwise gone there. That was 3 or so years ago and I've lost count of how many times I've been, for both brunch and dinner. I read through some of the negative reviews and I'm genuinely perplexed; I've never had a bad experience here.
I love the atmosphere, and the service is always good if not outright super. But the food. Mercy, the food. I've tried just about everything on the menu at some point (either ordering it myself, or taking a bite off my dining companion's plate) and have never been disappointed. Certainly, there are things that aren't really up my alley, but that's the case wherever you go.
Some of my favorites are: the French country breakfast (that skillet potato is the best); steak and eggs; lobster & crab crepes; beef & asparagus crepes; trout amandine (I sub asparagus and mashed potatoes as my sides); beef short rib bourguignonne (very good on a cold winter evening); mussels & frites; roasted artichoke hearts; four cheese fondue; and the brie en croute.
They do nightly specials, too. Off the top of my head: Monday is all you can eat mussels, and Friday is lobster. I've taken advantage of both specials at some point, and really enjoyed both.
Prices are fair, in my opinion. But, PRO-TIP, keep an eye on Groupon, Living Social, etc. because they frequently have deals available.
I'd definitely recommend this place. In fact, when friends and family come to town we almost always go here. Hopefully the negative reviews were isolated incidents, which is unfortunate but, in my experience, not the way Café Monte normally functions.
