  • Okay, let me just fitness-geek out for a second here. I saw the poster for a rebound shoes fitness class at the gym and my thought process went like this: kangaroo shoes? That looks bizarre...must... try...! Always happy to be the canary in a fitness coal mine, and in this case, I struck gold. In Kangoo Jumps class you hop like a bunny, grin like a goof and sweat like a hog, but with none of the usual impacts of high-intensity exercise on your legs or back. To start out, you can teeter around tentatively and gradually work up toward really getting your bounce on. I am serious about my exercise, and I'll note for fellow gym bunnies that I wore my heart rate monitor last night to Jumps class and got the same workout as P90X Plyometrics (which Tony says "puts the X in P90X") with waaaaayyyy less impact. Picture ski boots with a stable, springy base that you can wear when you jog, skip or run stairs. (You probably can't really picture them, which is why you should just try it.) Kangoo Jumps has been around a long time in Australia and Europe but is just getting started in North America. Dorina, the Messiah of Bounce, is a cute and funny Hungarian-Torontonian hopping from gym to gym with a car-full of rebound shoes. She's giving out free passes to try the classes, so you've got nothing to lose except body fat and maybe a little dignity.
