  • UPDATE: I received a message from the owner, Dave. He said that the Brat Haüs is NOT considered a German restaurant. "We're a simple urban beer garden with a European influenced menu" and that Yelp mistakingly has it classified that way and refuses to change it. Ummm... ok.... Do you think somehow the name of the restaurant might have caused a little bit of that confusion? right? Several of us rode to Scottsdale on our bikes and wound up at the Brat Haüs for lunch. It's the only place around that wasn't too crowded, requiring a long wait. I was looking forward to eating lunch here because I am German and love German restaurants and atmosphere. I ordered the bottled root beer and beer brat with sauerkraut. The bottled root beer tasted authentic (duh), but the cooked brat, tasted dry, flavorless and was surprisingly small for the price. Yet, the bun was so wide, I could hardly put the whole thing in my mouth. I had to lift the little wiener off the bun to hunt for the saurkraut (sad). After finishing my meal, I quietly announced that I was still hungry, only to find out that others at our table felt the same way. I've never left a restaurant hungry and always have to take a doggy bag. More food for the price please!! Someone with us ordered a $10 beer in a small, stemmed glass. No thanks. We all know she didn't take any of that home with her. :-) The atmosphere on the Brat Haüs patio is far from authentic. Where's the German (polka) music? I don't remember hearing any music at all. Why aren't the waitresses wearing cute, sexy dirndls or lederhosen?! Where are the colorful hanging flowers that adorn the German patios and windowsills? The only thing that is truly authentically German at the Brat Haüs is the way the tables are pushed together on the patio allowing total strangers to end up eating next to each other, like in Germany. What a disappointment! I sincerely hope the owner does some much needed research on running a German restaurant or this place won't be in business long...sorry for my honesty.
