| - This place is good. The pasta is deliciously homemade. The ingredients are fresh and local, and presumably mostly organic. The service is welcoming. When we went, the co-owner Nick was the host, server and chef. How many restaurants are there where the chef/owner personally cooks and serves your entire meal (instead of minimum-wage workers)?
Yes, it's expensive for the portions that you get, but understandable given the quality of ingredients, the handmade pasta and homemade everything. I would suggest that they just add more plain pasta to their dishes, since there is plenty of sauce in them. That would satisfy the gluttons in all of us and not add much to the cost.
My favorite so far is the pesto (a lunch special, not on the regular menu), bursting with basil and parmiggiano flavor. The gnocchi was strong and spicy. The carbonara was good but could have used a little more salt (for my palate). The orechiette salsiccia included tasty homemade sausage and the orechiette had a good springy texture.
I hope this place does well, because it's unique and an asset to have downtown. If you go expecting quality, delicious pasta, you will be happy. If you are expecting to gorge yourself into oblivion and feel like you got a screaming deal, you will not. There's a time and place for both.
