| - ...because you order these delectably described dishes and they never show up
I am currently pregnant with bébé number 3, needless to state date nights come very rarely. My husband and I found ourselves in Charlotte over Labor Day weekend with a sitter for the night and we were geeked to checkout the local nightlife since we no longer live in Charlotte.
I studied Yelp reviews that day and decided that Crave was THE place to hit up because the dessert menu was just too good to pass up - I also eyed a ton of the alcoholic beverages but figured if the place is as great as it seems, I'll be back as soon as I'm back in Charlotte and not expecting.
We arrived just after 9pm and waited a while for the hostess to appear at the front. There were two parties of 4 or more ahead of us waiting in the lobby, so we assumed that we'd be seated fairly quickly. We were wrong. The hostess asked us if we had previously made reservations, my husband informed her we did not. She asked for his phone number, we thought it would be to serve as a text to let us know when our table was ready. It was not. It was a link to download Yelp to check in and get a table. This is the first time we'd ever experienced this, since I have a Yelp account, I just logged in on my phone and got us on the wait list, where we discover there were in fact 10+ parties ahead of us and that our wait time would be close to 50+min. Since I really wanted the desserts, we decided to stick it out in the lobby watching the local wildlife strut in and out of the bar.
After just shy of an hour, we get a text that our table is ready. We stand up and walk over to the hostess stand and wait for another 20min for the hostess to come back. Eventually we are seated outside and told our server would be with us shortly. 10min later, our server arrives and thanks us for being so patient. She said she'd noticed us in the lobby and that we waited for a really long time. She places a glass pitcher of warm warm water (as in warmer than room temperature/luke warm) on the table and says she'll give us a few minutes to look over the menu.
A few minutes turns into another 10-15 before she returns to take our order of the pesto chicken flatbread, pick 3 spreads and the baked brie.
Some time later, a young man we'd seen at the hostess stand several times earlier, appears at a table nearby attempting to serve our food to patrons enjoying their hookah. The patrons insist that it wasn't their order while he insists it's theirs. He begins to walk back inside and takes a last minute glance over his shoulder and walks over to our table asking if that was our order - we were one of two tables outdoors. We said yes and noticed immediately that the baked brie was missing. He said it was still being cooked/prepped and would be out shortly.
We finish our meal and I really begin to get excited about the desserts, unable to narrow down which item I will select and ultimately deciding that I'm ordering more than one because I'm pregnant! If ever there is a time where you can cheat a "diet" this is the time, right?! So I narrowed down three items I knew I wasn't leaving without and my husband wisely agreed that I could have whatever I wanted.
That's about when we realize that our warm warm pitcher of water is emptied, our glasses are as well and that we've not seen our server for the better half of 30min.
Eventually, our server reappears and asks if there was anything else we'd like to order. We ask for more water, some utensils/napkins because we never had those and ask the status of our brie. She then says, oh, I'll go check on that and get the water/napkins/utensils - and disappears for another 20min.
Just before she emerged my husband has declared that desserts or no desserts we are leaving because this place is beyond slow. I ask her when our brie will arrive and she replies, "Oh, no one told you? We ran out." Who was going to tell us?! She was the one who went to check on it and then apparently forgot about it and tried to pass it off like that responsibility belonged to someone else. She also failed to bring utensils or more water.
My husband asked for the check and we waited......and waited......and waited...
before my husband decided to get up and go find someone to close out our tab so that we could go somewhere else to dine before everything was closed. She appeared with the check while he was inside asking for assistance at the hostess stand. I gave her the payment and she disappeared for a bit before returning. My husband then noticed that the check still had the brie on there and asked for it to be removed but not before mentioning that with our Yelp check-in we had a promo discount that should be applied. She gave a bit of attitude at the mention of the promo and insisted on seeing our phone to mark it as used so we couldn't use it again... like we'd ever return.
Such a huge disappointment when you can see the potential of the place.
