I've been going to the shop for over 8 years. Back when it was Econo Lube and then when Dave transitioned it over to Meineke. Never had questions of competency or trust. The business was sold to Steve a couple of years ago. The brakes were squeaking on one of our cars so we decided to take it in. Front brakes had been done 2 years prior. Tells me we need to get the back brakes replaced so we said yes and the work is done. I asked him how the front brakes were and he said he checked them and they are fine. Immediately after the work the brake light starts coming on and off intermittently. And the squeak is still there. After a while we take the car back in and tell them the squeak problem still exists and the brake light is on. Steve says (without even seeing the car) he remembers a slight squeak in the front suspension and that is probably what we are hearing. We suggest a test ride with mechanic driving. So we go out for a ride with the mechanic and he sees the brake light coming on and hears a slight squeak in the rear of the car. So we leave the car and then get a call from Steve who tells me the front rotors are pretty warped and need to be changed out and the front pads are pretty worn too. Gives me a quote. I tell him I'm not going to do that. I then asked him why he said the front brakes were fine a couple of months ago. He says he doesn't remember that. But yet when I brought the car in the second time he was already blaming the squeak on our front suspension. Interesting selective memory. He then asks if he had told me the front brakes needed to be replaced a couple months ago would you have done it then? And I tell him that's irrelevant. (The answer is yes by the way). This isn't a money issue...this is a credibility issue. Either you were wrong then or you're wrong now. For sure you created the brake light issue. Picked up the car. Yes brakes still squeak and still a problem with the brake light. I will go somewhere else regardless of whether it's under warranty or not. Not going back.
