Today, I had to have my 2016 VW Touareg TDI smog tested. I found it a little odd that they are the ONLY place in Clark County that can test AWD TDI vehicles. I pull up and get the test done. Everything seems to go fine and the test was done in about 2 minutes. Then comes time to pay. "It'll be $110...$111 if paying with a credit card". My jaw about dropped to the floor. Two years previous, I had a Jetta TDI smogged there for around $55 or so. I asked her why the price DOUBLED in two years time and her only reply was because of the state. I find this very hard to believe. This is price gouging to the most egregious level. These people should be ashamed of themselves. Just because you're the only place that can test, doesn't give you the right to charge what you are doing. Not even connecting to my computer to read codes for crying out loud. I'll be talking this over with the Clark County District Attorney.
***UPDATE IN RESPONSE TO BUSINESS RESPONSE***
You mentioned MAXIMUM charges set forth by the state. It doesn't mean you have to charge the maximum. While I realize the Mustang Dyno costs a lot of money, this is the same dyne that is used by sports car enthusiasts to measure their engine's power. I've paid less for 3 separate pulls on the same dyno that took roughly 15 minutes to perform. You charge more for a 2 minute test and do not go anywhere near maximum power output on test vehicle. Regarding the Jetta TDI that I had tested there 2 years ago, I don't know what else to tell you, other than you are mistaken or lying. The same test on the same dyno for my Jetta cost under $60. Now it's doubled. It's ridiculous and is taking advantage of a customer base that is FORCED to do business with you. Shame on you.
