  • So, long story sort of short. My insurance changed so I had to find a new dentist and went to Gentle Dental based on reviews. During my first (and only) visit saw the dentist for maybe 30 seconds and was told I needed over $3000 worth of dental work (over $1000 out of pocket). They said I needed some special deep cleaning that based on internet research/insurance is for people with periodontal gum disease as well as 5 cavities filled. They refused to give me my "free" regular cleaning that comes with insurance because they said once they diagnose a person as needing something different that is the only thing that can be done. They then charged me $66 for my "check up" and I left without my scheduled cleaning because I couldn't afford the special one. Had to get my money refunded after calling insurance who said they weren't even suppose to charge me for my visit because it was all covered under my 6th month check up and x-rays. I'm a 23 year old female who has always been told by the dentist to keep doing whatever I'm doing because it works and my teeth are great. I called up my old dentist and they pulled my file and said that this just didn't sound right based on my past, so I went into another dentist (Canyon Lakes Dental) for a second opinion. This dentist informed me that my teeth were great. Had my cleaning and checkup done and they said I have ZERO cavities and no gum loss at all. They asked me what my gum measurement numbers were from Gentle Dental to even be diagnosed with the gum disease and Gentle Dental didn't take any. Based on x-rays I had no gum recession either. Basically Gentle Dental diagnosed me with something without even going through the steps that are necessary for diagnosis. And then 5 cavities? No idea where they got that from but were apparently going to drill into perfectly good teeth for the money. So rather than paying over $1000 to Gentle Dental for work I didn't need, I have all the work I need done until my next 6 month visit and it didn't cost me a penny because there was nothing wrong with my teeth and insurance covered the basic cleaning and checkup. Based on my experience Gentle Dental is out to get you for whatever money they can. If you are told you need something extravagant, I would highly recommend pursuing a second opinion.
