  • I went to Dr Bitaraf for a few years and didn't feel right about her practice on several occassions. I had always been told my teeth were in the top 5% by several dentists. On my first visit to Dr Bitaraf (after I moved too far from my previous dentist), I had a regular check up. I wasn't told I had any problems and came back a week later to pick up a night guard. At that time, she told me she forgot to tell me I was supposed to reschedule for 4 fillings. I was confused because she didn't mention anything the first time. Additionally, I hadn't had a filling since I was a child. The last visit to my previous dentist was only 6 months prior, and I was told my teeth were in great condition at that time. When I mentioned this to her, she told me they had new technology and she could see problems forming deep down and that these fillings would be "preventative." This was my first warning flag . . . I probably should have got a second opinion at that time, but instead I think I now have four filllings that I probably didn't need. On another visit, there was a charge on my insurance bill (paid fully by my insurance) for a 30-minute "dental instruction" which never actually occurred (I only saw this charge when I looked at my insurance records online). I didn't know this was billed because her receptionist always has you sign a blank form without filling in the services. It's very uncomfortable to sign, and it feels awkward to ask them to write the charges down. She also gives excessive Xrays. My spouse at the time worked in radiation therapy and told me this was not an acceptable practice; exposure to xrays at a dentist should be limited to once a year at most. She was doing it every 6 months (probably to charge my insurance). She also keeps the computer screen above the patient's head on, and I could see the names and personal information of her clients that were scheduled for that day. So much for confidentiality! When I showed my new dentist (who is great) my night guard (that Dr Bitaraf had made for me), he was quite surprised at the type (soft rubber), saying it was probably making my grinding worse. She is a nice lady, but that's about all I can say for her . . .
