| - Absolutely incredible food plagued by horrendous service (quite possibly one of the worst experiences I have had at a restaurant). We stopped in on a Saturday evening when the restaurant was lively but not overwhelming. We arrived with a reservation and was naïve enough to expect that would allow us to be seated quickly. The hostess was no where to be found for the 15 minutes, leaving a group of 10 people huddled awkwardly by the entrance. It wasn't until 30 minutes later when we were finally seated.
Once seated, the horrible service continued. 15-20 minutes go by and no one greets us. As I was about ready to pack up and head to the closest McDonalds, the waitress finally comes and we took the opportunity to throw in our appetizer and entrée orders before she could escape.
Half an hour later, my baby kale salad comes out and missing at least 2 toppings shown on the menu, but I was so hungry at this point that a couple pecans and pieces of cheese were not even worth it. As I chomped down on mostly kale stems, I stared at my boyfriend's order of tater tots longingly, regretting my decision. Avoid the kale salad guys. As we were waiting for our entrée, I devoured all the free table bread - which, quite honestly, was my favorite bread basket I've had.
The seitan pot au feu was incredible! So delicious that I shameless scraped the bowl clean. First off, so impressed that they have a vegetarian menu item that's not some lame pasta. Not only that, it was insanely delicious. One of the best seitan dishes I have had. Highly highly recommend! My boyfriend had the Korean BBQ dish and as picky as he is with Asian cuisine, he absolutely loved it. Props to an American restaurant for knocking this one out of the park.
It really pains me to give them 2 stars when they had probably the best food I've had in a while, but atrocious service can ruin a dining experience. I would definitely return for the food and would highly recommend Sonoma Grille - just be prepared for the wait.
