| - I was a bit skeptical leaving The Strip and coming to a deserted parking lot at about 9:00 pm. I was blown away by the groups of people waiting by the entrance door of the restaurant. We made out way past the people and found even more inside the waiting area. We managed to put our names down on the wait list, and the hostess said it would be a thirty minute wait. We decided we would leave, explore outside, and then come back later.
Don't judge us for what we decided to do next. Just a few steps away was a massage parlor. The GF and I decided to treat ourselves with a thirty minute foot massage. I wonder if the massage place gives the restaurant a cut of the profits, since I can imagine a lot of the customers also eat there. The massage was not that great, but that is another review for a different day.
We came back to the restaurant seven minutes after they had called, informing us that our table was ready. We were seated fairly close to the entrance, next to a secluded room. The interior of the dining establishment looked quite remarkable. Everything looked new, and well maintained. The exterior was very misleading. You would never expect to see such grand chandeliers, a vast wine selection, and well kept furniture.
We decided to order the fried wontons to start, thai fried rice and khao soi for our main course, and for dessert, we had the fried bananas with coconut ice cream. The fried wontons were just okay tasting. I enjoyed their homemade sweet and sour sauce. As for the wonton , they were a tad overcooked, causing them to dry out. The skin to meat ratio was disproportionate. This was the only item that I felt was not worth the price.
We ordered the thai fried rice without tomatoes, and with a fried egg on top. Our server even repeated all the items we ordered back to us. Somewhere along the way, this was not communicated to the kitchen. Not surprisingly, there were tomatoes everywhere! So, we sent it back, and hopefully there was no spit in the new one we received. I am almost positive they used the same egg from our old one because it was only room temperature. Overall, the thai fried rice was delicious and the egg was cooked perfectly. With the slide of the knife, the yolk oozed everywhere.
The khao soi was definitely the star of our meal. Be warned that a 6 is super spicy. You get to choose the spiciness level from 1-10. It was so good though. The curry broth had so much explosive flavor. The noodles were cooked perfectly, and all the ingredients inside the bowl complimented each other perfectly. My favorite part of the dish was the coconut curry, hands down.
For dessert, there are three options. They are ice cream, fried bananas, and mango sticky rice. We decided to get the ice cream AND fried bananas, which are two desserts. I have to admit, I have not ever seen fried bananas served without ice cream. It was surprising that people order it by itself. When it finally arrived, we were already so full. I wish there was more ice cream to go with the bananas. We finished the ice cream with about four more banana pieces left.
Overall, a very good dining experience. It was quite nice to get away from The Strip. Out of the less than ten times I have been to Vegas, this was my first time eating outside casinos and away from the gambling addicts. It was a pleasant experience, and I can see why this place is doing so well.
