| - 4 fresh tacos with toppings for $10? Heck yeah!
There was a ton of traffic in the South Hills on Cinco de Mayo (Friday) this year so we decided to stay local for our Mexican food fix. My SO picked up Las Palmas on the way home from work as we have heard great things about it and are embarrassed to say we haven't tried them in the 2 years we have lived in Dormont even though there are two locations so close to us, in Brookline and Beechview.
I didn't actually go to the location so I am not sure on the appearance/variety/freshness, but my SO relayed the experience he had:
There were quite a few meat options, and to his knowledge, they are all the same price: steak, pork carnitas, beef, chicken, chorizo. He decided on 2 steak and 2 chicken, to keep it simple for the first visit. He hates onions and didn't realize that the chicken is tossed with cooked onions so the 2 chicken became mine, and I wasn't complaining! He topped mine with fresh pico de gallo (a little spicy but very good) and he got tomatoes and salsa verde, his favorite. They throw on a ton of fresh cilantro and wrap the taco filling in 2 soft corn tortillas, which I have noticed is very traditional in Mexican street cuisine- to better hold up to the meat and sauces that can make the first taco shell a little bit soggy. They also tossed in several slices of fresh lime, a nice touch, so we could squeeze them fresh over the tacos.
I have to say the tacos were delicious, and especially for the price. My SO wasn't blown away by the steak, but said the whole package was delicious. He said he would probably get a better meat next time, like the carnitas, that he said looked and smelled amazing. I can't wait to go back and build my own, soon!
