| - I purchased an AMAZING deal through Living Social (2 gels sets for $25)... The first time I went in, I was told a normal gel manicure was $30... Great savings, I thought. (with French being an extra $5, of course)
At my first visit, I arrived about 5 minutes early. I stood at the door while I waited for either employee to acknowledge my arrival. After 3 or 4 minutes, I was "told" to go wait down the hall. They'd call me when they were ready for me. (I wasn't too happy at this point. They didn't even greet me... just barked orders at me, after I patiently waited.)
I had Izzy (Elizabeth, the daughter of the duo) do my nails. I had the French done, and I wasn't too pleased with the outcome. Not only were my nails not painted to the edges, and the white lines were NOT even, she seemed to be having a bad day personally. She didn't say but 2 or 3 sentences to me, and every time I asked a question, she just rolled her eyes like I was bothering her.
I scheduled my next appointment 3 weeks out, as that was the next available.
My gels didn't last 10 days before they were breaking and pealing off (and I was a bit sad about this). The one and only other gel I had done (somewhere else) lasted THREE WEEKS with no problems, except grow-out of course.
I went tonight for the second set. Izzy was in a much better mood, and I actually enjoyed her company. I decided to do a solid pale pink color (remembering her ability to do French wasn't up to my standards).
After an hour of work, I tipped her (TEN DOLLARS) and went out to my car. I decided to check out the work before I drove off, and BOY was I happy I did. The work wasn't good. The edges weren't painted, and the color I had chosen wasn't even-toned across the nails.
I went back in to see if she could touch-up (aka FIX IT). She attempted to, but quickly admitted that the color (and thus the gel brand that she used on me) was very bad, and that they would have to be completely re-done.
The mother of the duo said I could come back, or WAIT until she was done with her current client. I decided to wait, as I wasn't happy with the work.
The mother was pleasant at first, but soon had a "really?!?!" attitude with me. I had her re-do the nails, this time with the French tip style that I love so much.
I'd give her a B-/C+ grade on quality... lines weren't even, but they weren't nearly as off as her daughter.
I'm extremely glad I only paid the $25 for the two sets (plus $5 for French paint and $15 in tips).
