  • Probably the least-friendly, elitist, disappointment of a bar I've been to in awhile. Maybe my expectations were set too high having visited Ground Kontrol (Portland, OR), but I was just looking forward to having a cocktail, play a couple video games, and chat with my travel companion after a long night exploring Fremont. It started out alright (ehh higher priced beer, whatever, vacation!). After scoping out the game selection, I was disappointed to note at least a third of the consoles were either out of order or just not turned on. Whatever, I'm content with Frogger and Street Fighter... Then came my breaking point; my feet and back started screaming to sit down. Of course there was no availability at the bar, so I scoped out a dark couch in the back corner. No more than 20 seconds later, a security guard ordered me to stand up and move on. "Sorry, no problem! Is there any other seating available? My feet are killing me." He told me the bar is the only other seating. Cool, so maybe 20 stools at the bar for us regular patrons who want to drink and play video games. The entire bar was full. The rest of the seating was empty. For the patrons who feel like shelling out money to play Mario Kart in public while paying $7/ beer - there is plenty of seating! An entire wall of empty seats was reserved for private video game play... Also, there is plenty of VIP seating next to the DJ! (Also empty) I grabbed a standing table near said forbidden couch, briefly kicked off my heels to make my feet shut up, and was immediately instructed to put my shoes back on by the same security guard who kicked me off the couch. I died. Have fun being awful and unfriendly. I get it- weird health code rules for no shoes and whatnot- but that doesn't excuse the snobby attitude of the employees. Throw an extra half dozen stools or decorative bench in the mix. Maybe turn on some more video games? -These are useful suggestions. I don't understand what their cover charge grants ($10 for out-of-town & discount for locals), aside from paying the wages for their over-staffed security force. Also, they have bathroom attendants. -why? Nope. Never again. This bar only made me appreciate Ground Kontrol even more. Have fun alienating your patrons, Insert Coins, good luck with that.
