| - Had to get a passport renewal and this happened to be the closest office to where I live. As soon as I walk in, I ask the curmudgeon at the counter about the proper procedure to apply for one. I told her that it was urgent, as I had planned to book an emergency trip for the last week of March. She told me (with a rather sulky tone) that an appointment had to be set-up beforehand. I'll admit that this was kind of my fault and I thought "fair enough," but then I (apparently inconveniently) asked her if walk-ins were offered at this location. I already knew that post offices in other places had them but I had no idea that only ONE office in Las Vegas offered them (I found this out later). In an annoyed fashion, she looked it up and smuglishly told me that there were offices in Boulder City and Pahrump that offered walk-ins.
...What? Boulder City? Pahrump? Are you f***ing toying with me?
Then, all of a sudden, a man (who I assume was the one in charge of the passport department) pops out and asks what I needed help with. I explained my dilemma and he gave me the directions to the primary post office down by Sunset Rd and said they were now offering walk-in services for passports. Had I had not spoken to this man (God bless him), I don't know what dire situation I would be in right now. Anyway, I rushed over there and everything went swimmingly. In-and-out within 30 minutes. Staff was great and I got what I needed. I spent the rest of the day imagining what I would have had to go through if I had listened to that old crank and had decided to leave and just cancel my trip. Sickening incompetnace. There is no excuse to be this unknowledgeable at your job. Especially for someone at advanced age.
Bottom line: incompetent, unknowledgeable and inattentive employees with no sense of logic and a serious lack of customer service skills. They've also got to work on giving us a smile or something. Just because you hate your lives/jobs, doesn't mean we hate ours. Leave the rancor at home! Our tax dollars go to paying your salaries (I hate knowing this whenever I get a BAD experience at government facilities) and I expect better! The only reason I give it two stars is because my regular visits are usually quick and easy and I've never had a problem with any of the post offices in town in the past. Also, why the hell is it that no other post office other than just ONE offers walk-in services? Makes no sense!
* For emergency passport issues, head down to the main office at Sunset and Paradise. It's (as far as I know) the only office in Vegas that allows walk-ins. Also, the staff is far more competent and friendlier and will get things done for you ASAP. It may take you longer to get there and it may use up a bit more mileage, but it's damn worth it. *
