  • Like others i read the reviews and I also have FB friends raving about Uber so I thought this would be a professionally run business, not some group of people masquerading as a glorified taxi service. Found out that I am wrong. First I wasn't thrilled that the site doesn't have a phone number for a live person, secondly I'm not crazy about businesses who require a credit card on file, but I thought I'll give it a try. I actually need daily services for an extended period of time and can't be getting up everyday "hoping they have someone near me" like their website advises. I have a medically disability that can be no problem or out of the blue start causing problems. In the grand tradition of Murphy's Law I was supposed to start a new job on 6/22 and 4 days prior I started having problems again, so automatically I can't drive for 3 months or possibly longer until my dr releases me and the bus isn't a safe option either. I can hope that Valley Metro will help but they won't make a decision for at least a month. Luckily my new job was willing to let me start a week late to get everything in order and I've investigated every way possible to get there. Dealing with Uber was honestly worse than Valley Metro and they are ridiculous. I e-mailed, detailing my situation and asked if they would be willing to do a standing reservation. Since this is obviously somewhere I'll be going 5 days a week Uber stands to make good money. I'll be working somewhere very strict on attendance, you can't miss any time for 90 days and on time is 15 minutes early so I can't get up everyday and just hope they have someone available. However, knowing all this Uber's response is "No, watch our video so you know what on-demand means." Obviously someone didn't read or comprehend my e-mail.What business would not love guaranteed business for 3 months at the least? Well the answer is apparently Uber. I doubt Uber drivers are being told that they have the chance for something like this only to have potential customers told "We don't have this capability to pre-schedule ". Give me a break. If your "software" doesn't have that capability you have problems. Also when you already have a deal set up with a large credit card company for people to receive a 20% cash back for using them as payment don't tell me you can't pre-schedule a pick-up. What it comes down to is this is not a business that is being managed properly. I had a feeling this was going to be their attitude, that you basically work around them, whether you realize it not. So I will be using a taxi company who was more than happy to schedule as many advance trips as I needed AND they didn't require a credit card. I may be paying a little more, but I don't care. I was happy to talk to someone who was actually personable, helpful and didn't try to be "above me" by schooling me on how to use the website. Uber is happy with their clientele so good for them. Keep in mind there are plenty of people in my situation who can't drive or safely take a bus but we still have lives to live. I shouldn't have to risk my job to work around your schedule when you are being paid by me and because you don't know what you're doing.
