  • Disclaimer: I was offered a $5 dollar coupon off my next game if I left a review, but that does not affect my review of Codescape. I had never done an escape room before and was always curious what all the fuss was about. Me and my FiancĂ© were bored one day and accidently found this place on Yelp, so decided to give it a shot after all of the reviews and were pleasantly surprised! We had A LOT of fun!!!!!!!!!! After flipping through the reviews, we decided to try "Shipwrecked" as our first room. The room was very detailed and designed well, and we were taken back by how many different levels and rooms there were. The puzzles are designed cleverly and build upon items and information from the previous rooms, so you have to pay attention to everything you see and use. We had one hour to figure out how to escape multiple rooms and were given 3 hints if we asked for it. We got a great team and completed "Shipwrecked" with 6 minutes to spare! Anthony, who was overseeing the game, was super nice! *Hint: For the first room, pay close attention to the story given before you start! The only problem I had, and this was mentioned by previous reviewers, was that we had too many people. The max is 10 and I honestly think the max should be closer to 5-6. The reason for this is that it gets cramped and confusing with so many people, and I noticed a lot of people simply following the leader and not having a chance to speak up or give input on the puzzles. I work in consulting and when it comes to group effort/team games, there is definitely a max number you should have and 10 is too high. Groups comprising more than eight or nine people are inefficient because they allow some members to coast ('social loafing'), and their size allows cliques and sub-teams to form which is exactly what happened in my team. Luckily me and my fiancĂ© helped lead the team, so our experience was awesome, but I can imagine some of the shy team members we had might not have had the same experience as us. That's my only gripe! (Sorry, I had to deduct a star for this one!) Overall though, we had a BLAST and the room was nice and challenging for us. An hour went by WAY TO QUICKLY. We plan on coming back and trying the rest of the rooms. I will update my review to cover all of the rooms once we have done them all.
