| - I'm all for gun control and the Gun Store provides a safe and sane operation for you to try out different guns. Shooting here is a bit pricey, and the staff is hit or miss, but overall it's a good operation. If you come here make sure to call ahead and ask for Ketsu, a fantastic instructor.
Rather than walk or get a car, we called the Gun Store and they were able to send over a van. Once we arrived we were presented with a slew of options - from small handguns, to machine guns, to an enormous .50 caliber. The prices range from $30 for 20 rounds with a handgun to $25 per round for the .50 caliber beast. They have a variety of paper targets from simple to silly (Kim Jong Il as the rocket man) for $2 for each. Packages can run into the $1k range depending on how many different types of guns you want to try and how many rounds you want to shoot. While a couple of the folks in our group paid for large packages, most of us just chose handguns (a Colt .45 revolver and a .38 Special for me). The guy behind the counter tried to pressure us into using larger guns by asking us if our balls were big enough to handle it. I know can be a lot of machismo in a gun store but this really turned me off.
As for the shooting itself, our group of 7 was provided with one instructor. The instructor ensured that we all had eye end ear protection, that we understood how to hold and operate the guns, and they also loaded the guns for us. Rather than instructing the group and allowing everyone to shoot side by side, the instructor stood behind each person as they shot. If you're with a large group the whole process might take a while. Midway through our session, our first instructor left and was replaced with Ketsu. While our first guy was fine, Ketsu both aided and entertained us. He was humorous while remaining serious about his job. He even gave us suggestions on where to stand to film each other, and how to set up our GoPro. The women in our group would tell you Ketsu's not bad to look at either.
