I like this place so much that I eat lunch there just about every day. The draw for me is the bread, and the fact that the selection of sandwiches is so large (plus an off-the-menu special every day) that it's difficult to get tired of it. (It doesn't hurt that it's only a couple of block from my home.)
I'm not much of a pastry eater, but the ones I've had there have been delicious. Quiche and spanikopita are also to die for. Crepes and omelets are inconsistent.
Pekara is *not* a coffee shop. If you want a capucino, go next door to Aroma or around the corner to Kopi. But their regular coffee is delicious, as is their iced tea, and their desserts put those other places to shame.
Their regular staff are very friendly and helpful, but (like anywhere else in the food business) there's a certain percentage that is always turning over, and some of them have been less than wonderful.
When I go, I almost always take my dog, who tells me that their bakery made (but not by Pekara) dog treats are the best he's ever had.
I'd give it five stars if it weren't for the inconsistencies of some of their menu items.
