  • Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo expensiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiive. Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.... Okay, well... I know why... because they source from sustainable, etc etc places (So is the general trend towards the gentrification of the market - both good and bad - good from the "ethical" standpoint, but bad from the standpoint of pushing out families and people who have lived in the area for decades as it becomes increasingly more expensive to live in the area...) So yea, there is good and bad, but speaking personally, and being someone who lives in the area and has historical family ties to the market, it has become too expensive to buy my meat in the market. The good: Friendly awesome customer service. (I really don't want to make it sound like I'm crapping on the place, as I do enjoy the service most of the time, but am put off by the very high prices) I still occasionally pass by only to buy bacon (just the natural cure now, as they raised the prices and made the thick cut more expensive..). They also have a good variety of meats. The place is also always really clean, and the staff seems pretty awesome and knowledgeable. The bad: I think you get a sense of my largest gripe! lol. The prices... ohhh the prices.... too rich for my blood. I tend to get most of my meat from the Portuguese butchers on Dundas. Sadly since the close of European Meats (Sanagans opened in its place), the Market has become too expensive for me to buy my regular meats in. They also don't carry some meats that I have looked for. For instance, I was looking for a Portuguese chourico once, and they did not carry it which surprised me somewhat given the location of the business. I also once got a sandwich at the cooked meat counter and found that for the price, the sandwich was def. on the small side. So yea, I have ambivalent feelings about this place. Good knowledgeable staff, but so damn expensive. With the increase in the bacon prices, I rarely even pass by for that anymore. I just wish that they would have more options. Cheaper meats (maybe not the same quality as the rest) for those who honestly cant afford to pay the prices on the stuff they have now. That way the customer may have more options and the clientele wont simply be limited to those who have deeper pockets. I for one would love to not have to walk all the way down to Dundas past Ossington for my meats anymore. But alas, this is the only option I am left with..
