| - After spending three days in vegas eating mainly fast food, I decided to treat myself to a lovely meal at Fleur de Lys - it was wonderful!
Fleur de Lys is located in Mandalay Bay. Since it was a last minute decision, my friend & I did not have reservations and the restaurant was booked for the evening. There is an open lounge/bar area though with some small seats inside and tables outside the restaurant. We were able to sit at a table outside the restaurant and our server informed us that we could order off of the regular menu but also off of the tapas menu, which the regular restaurant could not. Even though we were very tempted by the regular (which has a "Top Chef" menu with dishes he made on the show), we opted to do a full tapas menu tasting for $95. We figured we could return on another occasion and try the menu then. Here are all the tapas included:
MARINATED OLIVES = different olives; not really a fan of olives so I did not eat this.
GOURMET TRUFFLED POPCORN = Yummy!! A nice snack to munch on but truffles are dangerous. =)
TRUFFLED ONION SOUP SHOOTERS = Rich & decadent - the soup was so smooth and delicious. I would definitely get this again.
AHI TUNA TARTARE = served on small spoons with shaved fennel and ginger ponzu; I found it quite tasty but not mind-blowing as I've had tuna like this elsewhere
HEARTS OF PALM SALAD = not really a fan of this one
ORGANIC MIXED GREEN SALAD = vinaigrette dressing with manchego cheese & golden raisins; this salad was much better than the hearts of palm.
ARTISAN CHEESES WITH BAGUETTE = two soft cheeses & 1 hard cheese came with honey comb, papaya puree and grape salad to accompany each cheese along with white chocolate baguette pieces and cranberry baguette. It was very good - especially with the honey comb!
CROQUE-MONSIEUR SANDWICH = ham, gruyere and bechamel sauce; much better than I thought it would be - I love me a fancy ham & cheese sandwich!
VEAL & YUKON GOLD POTATO RAVIOLI = Probably my favorite of the night! Savory & melt-in-your-mouth wonderful!
CHARCUTRIE BOARD = various cut meats with prosciutto, salami, pate, olives, cornichons, baguette & whole grain mustard; I thought the salamis were the best here.
SLIDERS WITH POTATO SHOESTRINGS = the sliders did not taste like beef - they had a "gamy" flavor like venison?; They were stuffed with blue cheese and served with the tiniest shoestring fries I've ever seen.
SEARED SKIRT STEAK = topped with chimichurri sauce and served with fingerling potatoes stuffed with sour cream & chives; steak was cooked very nicely and potatoes were delish! I did not care much for the chimichurri sauce though.
====
COCONUT PASSION FRUIT SORBET = Sorbet served atop tapioca pearls with kiwi, strawberries and fried plantains; the sorbet was heavenly!
HOUSE MADE ICE CREAM = three flavors including bailey's, chocolate and vanilla - all three were rich and lovely.
HOUSE MADE SORBET = three flavors included raspberry, green apple and blood orange kalamansi. Raspberry & green apple were good but the blood orange was very sour - maybe a good palate cleanser. =)
FRESH BAKED MADELEINES = mini madeleines served with warm chocolate ganache; with or without the chocolate, by far the best madeleines I've ever had.
Although I did not fall in love with every single dish, most of them were very yummy and definitely worth every penny. The service was wonderful as well - we were checked on frequently & they took time to make sure we were enjoying our meal. One other thing I loved during our dinner was the coffee and tea served to us before the desserts. My friend had coffee while I had chrysanthemum green tea. The tray set out was just lovely - it makes me want to have "tea time." The coffee was served in a French press while my tea was served hot in a small pot with the loveliest tea cup & saucer. Sugar cubes with tongs and saucers with cream were also set out - just so beautiful. The only thing missing was a nice plate of petit fours. =)
It was a wonderful experience & I definitely want to return to try more. Chef Hubert Keller has my culinary heart!
