With the distinct lack of real farmers markets on the island of Montreal a trip to Quinn farm was an amazing day for the whole family. Luckily for us the weather was warm and sunny for a fall day (mid-October) and we managed to arrive early on a sunday at the farm. The farm opens at 9am but I would arrive before 11am to avoid the sudden crush for parking.
We paid to pick apples from the orchard (they give you a huge empty bag to fill for $11) and also for the tractor ride ($1.50 for adults and grown kids). The tractor rides takes you first to the apple orchard and then you can hop back on to go to the pumpkin field. The farm is so catered for families and especially young children. The tractor picks you up again after the pumpkin picking and takes you back to the main barn where you have your pumpkins weighed (35 cents a lb) and can buy fresh apple pies, liquid honey, apple cider and many other farm produce.
They have a great picnic area where you can bring your own lunch, washrooms, coffee and everything else you could need for a day out.
We loved the casual country farm attitude. Very relaxed with great facilities. Picking organic apples that aren't covered in wax (so they look nice in the stores) or pesticides was a huge plus along with the general feeling that you are supporting farmers directly rather than them being hamstrung by the supermarkets wanting to pay peanuts for perfect looking fruit and veg.
Quinn farm also offers PYO strawberries, blackberries and other fruit when in season. At xmas you can cut down your own xmas tree. We will definitely be back!!
