| - I pass Sherbourne Common every day on my way to and from work. I see it all lit up pretty in the dark, I see people hanging out and playing on a sunny day, and sometimes I take a little detour and ride my bike around it myself.
Yesterday i took a lengthy detour! My friend had mentioned that she'd never been though to explore it herself, so we explored! First we swung around Sugar Beach, around the back of the Corus Building to start at the southern most end of Sherbourne Common. The 'river' ends down here and winds under a few concrete bridges. Up closer to Queens Quay there is a big open area that has water spouts that sometimes shoot out of the ground. They weren't going, so that was too bad. There are signs by the river that say 'No Wading' but who will enforce that on a hot, sunny day like today? Everyone was dipping their feet in the ice cold water, it was really refreshing.
We crossed north of Queens Quay to the play area. Wow, totally fun! There are teeter-totters and swings and this spinny disk thingy. Awesome. The teeter-totters are reinforced with with a giant spring so you so can't smash your ass on the ground. The swings were ok, but they only have one here and one there (more swings please!). The spinny disk thing, it looks like a big blue plate so you can run around and get it spinning, then hop onto it and spin and spin and spin. Woo! Barf machine!
The ground cover is this really cool reinforced stuff, that when you are walking on it, feels springy, so its good for the kids to run around on and fall on.
For now the only downfall is that the trees are new and young, therefore not much shade. Once they grow big and beautiful this will be an even sweeter spot for summertime play.
