| - If you've ever been to a black-owned hair salon, you know the absolute annoyances you have to endure sometimes to have your hair laid and looking right. My experience with Bangs Salon is straight out of the book of black salon problems. I scheduled a hair appointment at 10:30am weeks prior. Over the phone the stylist priced me at $80 for a silk press, trim and semi permanent color. A little expensive but i really needed my hair done RIGHT. Today, I arrive on time and this place is rockin. I don't get in the chair until 11am. My hair was in terrible condition when I arrived (I'm exhausted, I'm pregnant, give me a break) but I assumed they would have been experienced with different types of black hair conditions. WRONG! Once i sat down at the shampoo bar. The shampoo girl looked at my hair pretty much in disgust and told me to get up so she can comb it. Even the stylist came by and asked me when was the last time i combed it. From the shampoo bar to the waiting area, then back to the shampoo bar, then to the stylist to do the semi permanent, then under the dryer to wait while the shampoo girl and stylist started on other customers, the clock was moving and i was getting tired. When i finally did get to the stylist chair, she was great! When she was finished, my hair looked amazing! It was bone straight and silky. Best it ever looked straight. Now, here's the icing on the cake. I get up to pay, the stylist says the bill is $110 (not a joke). I guess the $30 extra was for my hair not being done before getting it done. I even gave her a tip. I leave the salon at 3:15pm. 5 HOURS OF MY DAY AT A HAIR SALON. If i want to be optimistic, i could say long ass hair appointments make me ready to SLAY the morning or the following work week because there's no way in hell i have the energy to go anywhere tonight. Would i go back? What do you think?
