| - Came here with a group of friends on the dinosaur themed night and it was a great time! Would recommend to anyone who likes a more laid-back party atmosphere and loves the ROM.
We bought tickets online, arrived a few minutes past 7, and managed to skip most of the lines (security check, coat check, ticket check). The event runs to about 11:30 (galleries and bars close at 11) so come early if you plan to thoroughly explore and dislike waiting in lines.
There was a long line to buy ROM bucks by the entrance (food and drink tickets for the night). Tickets were $6 each and you could purchase a maximum of 4 drink tickets. You can use drink tickets as food tickets but not vice versa. We found out later that there are multiple places to buy ROM bucks so skip the one by the front entrance and find one with a (much) shorter line on the upper floors! Drinks offered include: beer, wine, and simple mixed drinks (gin&tonic, vodka cranberry, rum&coke, etc.)
Take a map and familiarize yourself with where the different food vendors are located! There's a variety of delicious food ranging from mac and cheese to liquid nitrogen ice cream. Some exhibits allow food and drinks (dinosaurs, rocks) but some do not (ancient history, animals). Would definitely recommend a walkthrough of the galleries! They had stations set up where we got to touch some actual dinosaur bones.
The fifth floor, which is typically only open for private events, is definitely worth a visit. It's less crowded and there was a wonderful jazz performance when we were there. We ended the evening with some dancing in the main lobby to a DJ that played tracks ranging from the 80s to present day.
There was a wide range of age groups represented though I'd say most people were in their mid 20s. Outfits also ranged from dressy casual to cocktail. It's a great post-work, pre-club type of event; definitely check it out!
