  • I decided to come here thanks to all of the raves on Yelp and I kind of regret that now. My friend and I showed up around 5:00 on a Friday and we were able to walk right in and grab the last of two tables. As everyone has already mentioned, it's very small inside. There are six high top tables and then about four to five standard tables in the middle. We were originally at one of the lower tables but a party of four consisting of small children came in and we were kindly asked to move to a high-top table. We weren't disappointed with that at all. The high top tables afford you some conversational privacy. I ordered a glass of the plum wine (which was delicious) and then placed my order for a rose roll and vegetable tempura roll. The menu is not only sushi-focused, there are also bento box combos, fried rice, teriyaki chicken and steak, etc. Our food arrived and it was decent although my rolls were wider than expected. What I will say about the sushi is that this is a good place to bring sushi newbies. They provide a lot of tempura options as well as rolls with mayo/cream cheese. The rose roll I ordered consisted of spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, avocado, cucumber and cheese sauce on the side. I didn't have any of the cheese sauce. The vegetable tempura consisted of fried broccoli, sweet potato, and zucchini. The waitresses were great, friendly, and super willing to accommodate any needs. After we were done with our food, my friend and I both agreed that we've had better sushi. Unfortunately, hours later (in the wee hours of the morning), I was struck with sharp stomach pains that led to me having to spend some time near a toilet bowl. I didn't have anything else to eat that night after leaving New Zealand Cafe so I'm utterly confused as to why my body reacted the way it but, needless to say, I won't be going back to find out.
