  • Holsteins Shakes and Buns is located on the 2nd floor of the shopping district of the Cosmopolitan. They didn't take reservations on Fridays and Saturdays but we were heading over for an early dinner anyways, so we beat the crowds easy. I did think it odd, however, that they placed us right beside a rather rowdy table in a basically otherwise empty room, particularly since we had a young child in our party. While the adults selected a couple of burgers to share and one of their intoxicating BAM-BOOZLED SHAKES, the Drunken Monkey $13 Reese's, Banana, Malt, Frangelico, the toddler got the Mac & Cheese $9 off the kiddie menu, which comes with a mini vanilla ice cream sundae. The Mac & Cheese was appetizer sized and consisted of a pool of a strongly cheesey sauce with some noodles swimming in it. The sundae, however, had two scoops of vanilla bean flecked ice cream topped with whipped cream and a scattering of candies. The burgers were not particularly oversized, though they were on the tall side. While I somewhat preferred the The Rising Sun $18 Kobe Beef, Teriyaki Glaze, Nori Furikake, Crispy Yam, Spicy Mayo, Tempura Avocado with its sweet sauce, my DC preferred the saltier Gold Standard $18.50 Dry Aged Beef Sirloin Burger With Smoked Bacon, Aged Goat Cheddar Cheese, Tomato Confit, Baby Arugula & Garlic-Chive Aioli. We upgraded one of the accompanying fries to sweet potato for $2, which I enjoyed a lot more than their relatively wimpy plain potato cousins. Given the size of this restaurant, I was a bit surprised that the bathrooms were each of the single person variety, with no changing table inside, till I was reminded that there might be additional shared bathrooms out in the shopping center.
