| - What an unusual, awful and (unfortunately) memorable experience! In full disclosure, I can only review my experience and not the food. My experience was so bad, we left before we got any food.
It was a Friday night and Charlotte was hopping with restaurant goers. We had already eaten dinner, and my group of 6 wanted to get desert and champagne. So, we went to Crave!
Knowing we might have to wait, we walked over. We went inside and were coldly greeted by the hostess: "Do you have a reservation?" No smile, no "hello." I told her we did not, but hoped to get a table for desert & drinks. She told us it would be 45-50 minutes. We frowned and put our name in while we'd discuss alternatives. At this point, we walked into the restaurant (to the left of the hostess stand.)
We walk in, and there were maybe 4 tables seated. Seriously, it was nearly empty. We walked to the bar, perplexed, and looked at the drink menu thinking we'd get drinks while we waited. I couldn't let it go, so I walked back over to the cold hostess and asked if there was really going to be a wait of nearly an hour. I noted my observation that there were many tables open, and said we didn't want to stay at the bar because we can't all see/talk to each other like we can at a table. She very oddly, (and it was very odd and unmerited), responded in a dry-cold-tone: "Yes, it will be." I asked about the other tables, and told her we probably wouldn't stay too long anyway. She replied, "those are reserved." I smiled, and said "Ok, thanks. We'll be in the bar in case your reservations don't show."
Went back in and our whole group was discussing this. It was odd. Was this some private club we needed to be members of? We look to our right and see the outside patio area... It was nice out, and since two of our friends were from out of town (we really wanted to spend time with them), we decided to ask if we can go out there. We saw two other groups/couples seated, so we knew it was open.
We asked the hostess if we could sit outside, she said "sure" and told us we could just pick a table. So we did. Finally, we have a table! We waited ten minutes, (yes, we timed it because we had noted the time when deciding whether to go elsewhere), no waiter. The first table outside had food and drink. The other table had menus, and no drinks. They had been there even longer than us. I went inside knowing I was going to irritate the already irritated hostess, and asked if she could please ask a waiter to come out with menus. She agreed.
About two minutes later, a waiter greeted us with menus and promised to be right back with some water. The other table tried to flag the waiter down, I'm sure so they could order, but the waiter didn't care or didn't notice. They looked frustrated too.
We decide on champagne and deserts, and waited. And waited. And waited. After all of this, dammit, we were going to get some cake & bubbles! Another 10 minutes goes by, and we huff & puff to ourselves, and decide to leave. The bouncers (they check ID's at the door) asked if we were "leaving already?" I smiled and said that we were and we couldn't wait anymore. He made an empathetic face and simply said "I'm sorry." As we're walking off the patio, by the door, to leave, the waiter comes out with a tray of waters. We just walked away.
So, no review on the food, or drinks, or even the water. Just the service = abysmal! By the way... we were here probably a total of 30 minutes, and not one other person/party/couple walked in. All those tables stayed empty. Tsk tsk Crave!
I DO NOT RECOMMEND GOING. The hostess was pretentious, cold and unwelcoming. The doorman/bouncer was actually friendly and was just doing his job of checking IDs. The servers were no where to be found. However, space & tables were plentiful... just don't expect to sit at one unless you have a reservation. If there's just two of you, you might consider sitting at the bar. The bar-seats were empty and plentiful on a Friday night.
