  • There's times in your life where you go into an establishment and you don't feel welcome and all you want to do is to forget the experience and never talk about it. This happens to be one of those times. Recently, I decided to clean my closet out - some were donated and some I thought I could maybe get some money for. I have never been to a consignment store before because I usually donate. After all, I usually feel better about myself for it. However, this chick is getting married this year so I thought it would be nice to get a couple of bucks. I didn't walk into the store with a trash bag of items. I walked into the store with ten or so items on a hanger because we all know that presentation is everything sometimes. I walk in right away and the store was empty. No one acknowledges me. I walk up to the counter and I say "hi" first. The lady asks me if I have ever consigned before and I said "no". She told me to leave my stuff on the counter and stroll around while she takes a look. I start shopping - ten minutes go by, fifteen minutes go by, twenty minutes go by and the lady looks like she is done looking at my items and talking on the phone. She doesn't even go up to me to tell me if they are interested or not. She doesn't tell me what they are looking for. She doesn't tell me anything. So I go up to the other salesgirl and ask her if they are interested. She says "no" - they are not interested in those items. I walk out feeling so weird. So, on my way back home, I stop at smarty pants consignment and they take a few items. Here are the differences: They were nice, friendly, and they informed me what they are looking for and what they are not, how the process works, etc. Even when they didn't take some items, I didn't feel weird. Why? It's because of good customer service! Even if PLRG didn't take any of my items, if they were nice, friendly and informative, I wouldn't have felt so bad. I would have even bought a necklace from there, but I won't be spending money at an establishment that doesn't see value in customer service - regardless of who you are, what you look like, and what you bring in to sell.
