| - I was seriously underwhelmed by Wooden Robot, despite all the great things I'd heard about the place, and the hype I had been exposed to non-stop from other bars and breweries prior to my visit.
After missing these guys by seconds the last time I was in Charlotte, I made sure to check them out on my last go-around to finally see what all the buzz was about.
In my opinion, I thought this was much ado about nothing. The beers were ALL underwhelming. I tried to like them. I really did. I wanted to like them. All I had heard is how amazing this place is. But man, I couldn't love them. I could barely stomach them. We ordered a taste of every beer on the menu. Although we realize that's a super annoying order, especially on a busy afternoon, it was a bit of a turn-off when the bartender acted less than friendly to us as a result - hey man, you're a brewery! Flights are what it's about!
When we finally brought our beers over to the table, we were less than thrilled. The sours were TOO sour, the IPAs TOO hoppy, the brown ales TOO malty - you get the idea? We left half of the beer behind us and, although we loved their theme and all their gear, we felt dishonest buying a shirt knowing how much we disliked their beer.
Food truck was also a rip-off. We broke down and ordered a taco because we were starving, but it was $13 or something ridiculous for a bit of snack food. Such a turn-off!
Not going here again. There are plenty other, better breweries in the area.
