I didn't know what to expect from this market. I guess in the back of my mind, I was expecting it to be expensive and "a check it out and never return" kind of situation. But I gotta say, I was truly wrong!
CityMarket is such a great idea. They have a large array of local produce and products, like chocolate bars, ice cream, fruits and vegetables! There is a full-out bakery with a display of so many scrumptious desserts I was drooling. Just kidding. But I was very close to.
I did grab a bite to eat from the deli and went to the in-store cafe to dine. I got the 2 entrees and a side for $8, and the portions were quite large. I chose the paella-- which had shrimp and chicken but I picked it out (and there was a lot). I only did this because there wasn't any veggie options as a main. There was a selection of Indian food that was vegan and vegetarian but I wasn't in the mood for that. There was also a sample of their flat bread pizza that was just out of the oven-- and I snagged a piece without meat, and it was yummy.
For the meat-eaters, there is a good selection of local meat and fresh fish. Although the freshly dead octopus in the display was a bit off putting and sent me straight to the well-stocked produce aisle in about four seconds flat!
What's great about CityMarket is the prices are the same as Superstore! Hopefully, it can maintain its cleanliness, quality customer service and diverse range of products.
